Massage Therapy Cures 63 Percent of Patients in Pain

A study which appeared in the June 27, 2000 edition of the Canadian Medical Association Journal , by a researcher at University of Toronto shows that massage therapy can cure 63 per cent of patients with sub-acute low-back pain.

In the study, 107 subjects with sub-acute low-back pain were randomly assigned to one of four groups: comprehensive massage therapy, soft tissue manipulation, remedial exercise and posture education and, finally, laser therapy.

After one month, 63 per cent of subjects in the comprehensive massage therapy group reported no pain while only 27 per cent of the soft-tissue manipulation group, 14 per cent of the remedial exercise and none of the laser therapy group reported an absence of pain.
