I teach the traditional western form of Reiki known as Usui Shiki Ryoho (pronounced oo-sue-ee she-key lee-oh-hoe). Usui Shiki Ryoho, named for its Japanese developer, Mikao Usui, is more literally translated as "Usui Style Healing Method", and more eloquently translated as "Usui System of Natural Healing".
The Reiki system of healing works with the "life force energy". Life force energy is known in many languages, and has long been used for healing by many cultures. In Chinese it is “chi” as in “tai chi” or “chi gong”, in Japanese it is “ki”, the Egyptians call it "Sekhem", in India it is called "Pranha", and the Greeks called it “pneuma”. These cultures know Life Force Energy to be an inherent part of all life. Reiki is used to optimize and balance the flow of energy within and around the body. It enables and promotes health and well being at all levels -- physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual.
I teach Usui Shiki Ryoho is three steps, called degrees. The third degree This level -- referred to as mastership, or the master degree -- includes how to teach Reiki to others.
I have studied 6 forms of Reiki and choose to teach only Usui Shiki
Ryoho because it is elegant in it's simplicity and most faithfully perpetuates
the traditional western teachings. Also, as counter-intuitive as
it may seem, more is not necessarily better when it comes to Reiki.
First Degree Reiki training includes:
1 | Learning the history of Reiki
2 | Learning to conduct a Reiki healing session with a client (or loved one), and how to do self treatments
3 | An empowerment process (called an attunement) that opens the student to experiencing and working with the Reiki energy
Second Degree Reiki training includes
4 | Learning techniques to optimize working with Reiki energy. These techniques include
4A | Scanning (sensing the qualities of the energy in the client)
4B | Three Symbols (used to 'focus' the Reiki within a healing session)
4C | How to conduct healing sessions with persons not physically present (distance Reiki)
5 | An attunement that expands the student's ability to experience and work with the Reiki energy
Third Degree Reiki (master degree) training includes
6 | A fourth symbol (the master symbol)
7 | Extensive information about how to teach Reiki
8 | An attunement to further expand the student's ability to experience and work with the Reiki energy |
I ask students who have begun their Reiki training with someone else
and wish to continue with me to contact me and discuss the matter.
I am entirely willing to teach anyone at any level. I do reqire that
you read "A History and Understanding of reiki" in addition to the manual
for the level of training you seek from me. The information taught
by different masters can vary greatly, and I ask that you read my books,
to ensure that you know everything I would have taught.
The specific material for First Degree training is outlined below.
For information about second or third degree training, please contact
me.
Step 1 | I usually start with a very informal "interview". This is
simply an opportunity for us to get to know each other a little.
I am interested in your background -- mostly how you came to be interested
in Reiki. And I can answer any preliminary questions you may have about
Reiki and the training I offer.
Time: typically 1/2 hour. Possibly more if you have a lot of questions.
|
In most cases, the "interview" is done over the phone. However, I can meet in-person with anyone who wishes to do so.
I usually recommend that the prospective student than attend a Reiki
share, if they can. This is an opportunity to "play" with the energy,
and allows for discussion and questions about Reiki .
. |
|
At this point, most people decide whether or not they want to proceed
with the training. For those who wish to proceed, I ask that they
read two books (described in detail below). The first is extensive
background information about Reiki, and the second is the Reiki first level
training manual.
Rarely, someone wishes to read the background book first, and then decide
about training, before reading the first training manual.
|
|
Step 2 | Read the book "A
History and Understanding of Reiki". This book is available
through Amazon.com. Click on the title at left, for a direct link.
The "history" book thoroughly discusses what Reiki is, how it works, and pretty much everything you could want to know about Reiki. Time: how ever long it takes you to read the book.
|
If you wish, we can we can discuss the information from
the "history" book at this time, and then decide if you want to proceed
with training. If you have already chosen to receive training, please also
read the first level training manual.
Time: 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on questions. This
discussion step is optional.
|
|
Step 3 | Read the book "Learning
Reiki First-Degree Manual". This book is available through
Amazon.com. Click on the title at left, for a direct link.
The first degree manual teaches you how to prepare for and conduct a Reiki treatment session on yourself or others in a variety of setting. Time: however long it takes you to read the manual
|
Step 4 | The actual training -- for First-Degree Reiki.
We review and discuss the information presented in both the "history" book, and the first degree manual. This allow for a solid understanding of what is being learned, and allows all and any questions to be discussed. I describe the actual training process in detail -- so you know what
to expect to happen.
The point of the practice session is primarily for you to experience the Reiki first hand. And you have a chance to ask any questions about the experience. This also offers an opportunity to practice the "procedures" of performing a Reiki session with someone. Time: Usually abou 4 hours, depending on questions and the number of
students.
|
We have follow up contact to see how things are going -- mostly to see if you have any questions. |
I require every student to read "A History and Understanding of Reiki",
and to to read the manual for the particular class you want to receive.
Please acquire and read the books prior to attending training.
The books may be purchased from Amazon.com. Click
here for complete information about my Reiki Training Manuals
Please bring your books to class. If you already own a manual, or have access to one, that is fine - the requirement is that you read the material and bring the manuals to class.
Note to students who started their training with someone else: I require
that you read "A History and Understanding of Reiki" in addition to the
manual for each level of training you receive from me.
